Registration Now Open for Annual Conference to be Held in Phoenix

PHOENIX – The chairman of one of Mexico’s biggest business conglomerates, Ricardo Salinas Pliego, has agreed to be a keynote speaker at the SABEW annual conference in Phoenix next March,

the Society of American Business Editors and Writers (SABEW) announced.

Salinas Pliego, chairman of Mexico’s Grupo Salinas, ranked in 63rd place on the 2010 Forbes magazine list of the world’s richest people.

The conference will be held in downtown Phoenix on March 19-21 and will include a special focus on North American integration, including immigration, a sensitive topic where business and social interests intersect.

Salinas Pliego is one of Mexico’s most storied businessmen. His booming companies are involved in retailing (Grupo Elektra), media (TV Azteca and Azteca America), pension fund investing (Afore Azteca), banking (Banco Azteca), insurance (Seguros Azteca) and cellular phones (Grupo Iusacell).

The Mexican businessman will provide real-world insights about the integration of businesses in the Americas, including concrete examples of his personal successes and failures in the region. He”™ll also offer suggestions on ways to boost trade and investment both in North America and across the hemisphere, based on the track record of his varied companies.

“One of the themes of our 2010 conference is international trade and North American integration. As one of Mexico’s leading businessmen, Mr. Salinas Pliego has first-hand experience of integration in the Americas and immigration issues from a Mexican perspective,” said Greg McCune, president of SABEW. “We are thrilled to have him as a keynote speaker at our conference in Phoenix.”

Salinas Pliego is also known for his philanthropy through charitable organizations that he heads. These include the Azteca Foundation, the Azteca America Foundation, Azteca Entrepreneur’s Association and the Grupo Salinas Cultural Initiative.

The conference will be held March 19-21 at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, SABEW’s new headquarters at the Arizona State University downtown campus.

Registration for the conference is now open. Call SABEW at 1-602-496-5186 for details. The conference fee is $299 per person.
