Job description: The main focus will be on coverage of small business and to a lesser degree the banking industry in the Puget Sound area, with emphasis on Snohomish County-based businesses. Coverage includes breaking news, blogging, and features. Small business/banking will be about half the typical beat, with the other half looking at a wide variety of local companies, local business people and business issues.

The successful candidate will have the ability to develop and write accurate breaking news and comprehensive stories online for Heraldnet.com and in The Herald on a wide variety of subjects, write an engaging blog about small business and its issues, regularly write other stories as needed, contribute to the daily and long-range planning efforts of the Business staff; and contribute regularly to weekend sections (Money, Real Estate and Monday Business). Also needs to work well with photographers, gathering information from sources about potential activities that could make good photographs or graphic illustrations to accompany stories.
