Birmingham Business Journal (American City Business Journals)

Editor

Full-time

Southeast (Birmingham, AL)

Application deadline 09/06/2010

Birmingham Business Journal Publisher Joel Welker is seeking an editor for the Birmingham Business Journal to succeed Craig Ey, who has been named editor of the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The editor is responsible for all Business Journal content, in print and on line. Joel says the ideal candidate will have strong news judgment,  a commitment to excellence and the ability to nurture the talents of a bright and energetic news team. The editor is also a key ambassador for the newspaper and must be comfortable with public speaking and broadcast appearances.

The Birmingham Business Journal is the largest and most respected business publication in Alabama and has become a major community institution, according to Joel. The reporting team has won numerous awards in recent years, including American City Business Journal awards and first-place honors from the Alabama Press Association.

In the heart of the Sun Belt, Birmingham has transitioned successfully over the last few decades from a manufacturing center into a diversified business community led by health care and banking and finance. The University of Alabama at Birmingham, a sprawling medical, research and education complex, is the region’s largest employer. Corporate headquarters include Regions Financial Corp., BBVA Compass, Vulcan Materials and Protective Life Corp.
