The Des Moines Register seeks a talented journalist to cover insurance and financial services. With dogged reporting and compelling writing, this reporter will have the opportunity to produce national-caliber work covering one of the world’s largest insurance capitals. The successful candidate will use our multimedia tools to dig into the numbers, tell compelling stories and break news. Responsibilities include breaking news on the strategies, products and leaders in the industry; exploring how new financial regulations and economic forces affect Iowa companies and consumers; and attracting a following through a must-read business blog. A degree in journalism and at least five years experience is preferred. Candidates should demonstrate a sharp eye for interesting stories, strong writing skills and a solid understanding of financial issues. Our experienced business staff has won several awards, including the Society of American Business Editors and Writers’ “Best of the Best” award for 2009. Iowa’s economy depends on a stable financial services industry, with 6,100 businesses and 81,000 employees.
