A panel of experts  discuss fun and fresh ideas for covering the retail during the holiday season.

Moderator:

Karen Talley is a special writer covering retailers for Dow Jones Newswires. She previously spent eight years on the stocks team. She has also worked at American Banker and the Long Island Business News.

Panelists:

Ellen Davis joined the National Retail Federation in 2002 and was named vice president in 2008. She is responsible for helping shape NRF’s communications strategy, acting as a primary NRF spokesperson, and conducting analysis of NRF consumer research and industry trends. She also spearheads emerging media strategies for NRF, including Retail’s BIG Blog and NRF’s social media outreach.

Andria Cheng is the retail reporter for MarketWatch. She covers the retail and branded universe from discount to high end. Previously she was with Bloomberg News, also on the retail/consumer beat.

Maria Halkias has been a Business news beat reporter at The Dallas Morning News since 1983 covering the economy, energy and since 1993, retail. Her first newspaper job was at The Post-Tribune in her hometown of Gary, Indiana. Before moving to Dallas she worked at The Clarion-Ledger in Jackson, Miss. She is a graduate of Valparaiso University in Indiana.

Christina Cheddar Berk is a News Editor at a CNBC.com, with more than 20 years of media experience. In the wake of the recession, she founded the site’s Consumer Nation section, which tracks the pulse of America’s spenders, looking at consumer attitudes, retailers and consumer products companies. Before joining CNBC, she was a Special Writer at Dow Jones Newswires and a guest columnist for The Wall Street Journal. Christina was part of a team of reporters who received a Society of American Business Editors and Writers award for breaking news coverage. She also has worked as an Associate Editor for The World Almanac and an Assistant Editor for the Funk & Wagnalls New Encyclopedia.
