Data is king: How to use and analyze economic reports

Monday, September 15, 2 p.m. EST

The U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis will lead a session that helps you find and interpret data for your stories. Participants will learn how to mine data on the BEA website and create fast charts and maps using the agency’s interactive tools. The call will also review the BEA’s two newest data series, which track consumer spending and GDP by state. Those listening to the call should be seated at a computer with the www.bea.gov website up.

Instructions: On the day of the call, dial 619-326-2730 and, when prompted, enter the access code 4058935 and you’ll be put in to the call.

Callers may only listen in to the panelists’ discussion, but may submit questions to sabew@sabew.org that will be sent to the moderator for possible inclusion in the hour-long discussion.

Thomas Dail, US Bureau of Economic Analysis

Thomas Dail is a public affairs specialist at the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis. He brings a dozen years of experience in newspapers and public relations to that job. Prior to joining the BEA, he covered politics and business in North Carolina. Dail holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an MBA from the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland.
