About SABEW Canada

A group of Canadian journalists launched SABEW Canada, SABEW’s first international chapter, in 2014. It now has more than 250 members, among them reporters and editors from The Globe and Mail, Bloomberg, Financial Post, The Canadian Press, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, The Logic and more. SABEW Canada’s mission is to define and inspire excellence in business journalism, including by hosting educational events, training sessions and networking events where business journalists can make new connections and be part of a community of colleagues and friends. SABEW Canada also hosts its prestigious Best in Business Awards competition.

SABEW Canada Committee

Sandra E. Martin, committee chair
Sandra E. Martin is The Globe and Mail’s Standards Editor, a role that seeks to ensure The Globe’s journalism is of the highest quality and that the organization is accountable to readers.

Previously, she served as The Globe’s Head of Newsroom Development, as well as Editor-in-Chief of MoneySense. She has also been an instructor at Toronto Metropolitan University’s School of Journalism.

A former Editor-in-Chief of Canadian Living, Sandra also is a two-time National Magazine Awards finalist, a repeat NMA judge, and a two-time NMA host. 

Bryan Borzykowski, past chair
Bryan Borzykowski is an award-winning business journalist who has written for the New York Times, CNBC, BBC, Forbes, Insider, Inc., the Washington Post and The Globe and Mail, among many other publications. He’s also the author of several personal finance books, and regularly appears on CTV News and SiriuxXM. Bryan is the founder and editorial director of ALLCAPS Content, a branded content agency that works with companies in the financial, tech and healthcare sectors.

He helped launch SABEW Canada in 2014, serving as chair for several years. Bryan joined SABEW’s board in 2015, and in 2019 became the organization’s first (and so far only) non-U.S. president. He also serves as president of the board of the Canadian Jewish News.

Dawn Calleja, past chair
Dawn is the Editor of The Globe and Mail’s national Report on Business magazine, where she oversees a mix of long-form features, programs such as Women Lead Here and Canada’s Top Growing Companies, and more. She started her professional career as a reporter at Canadian Business, working her way up to senior editor.

After a stint as executive editor at Financial Post Magazine, she joined ROB in 2006. She has won numerous National Magazine Awards both as a writer and editor, and received The Globe and Mail’s George Brown Prize for Editing in 2020. She also helped launch SABEW Canada in 2014 along with Bryan Borzykowski and ran its prestigious Best in Business Canada awards program for eight years.

Divya Balji
Divya Balji is the Managing Editor of Breaking News Americas for Bloomberg News based in Toronto. Prior to her current role, Divya led equity markets coverage in North America and had previously managed reporters and editors covering Asia Pacific’s stock markets while in Singapore.

 

Lisa Hannam
As the executive editor at MoneySense.ca, Lisa Hannam covers personal finance and investing at all levels of financial literacy, from saving and budgeting to home buying and DIY investing. She ensures that the journalism standards readers have come to expect from the award-winning website are in every article. Lisa has an extensive journalism background as an acclaimed writer and editor, spanning over 20 years, working for some of Canada’s largest glossy magazines, daily newspapers and popular websites.

Laura Hensley
Laura Hensley is the digital director of Canadian Business and a journalism instructor at Toronto Metropolitan University. Her work has appeared in places like the National Post, Toronto Life, Chatelaine, The Walrus, and Best Health Magazine.

 

Rosa Saba
Rosa Saba is a business reporter at the Canadian Press. She was formerly a business reporter at the Toronto Star, and is an organizer of mentorship and scholarship program Shared Bylines.

 

 

Jordan Timm
Jordan Timm has been managing editor of The Logic since 2019. He previously served as executive producer, news at National Post, as city editor at the Ottawa Citizen and as managing editor at Canadian Business.
