(updated April 2026)

The work of board members is vital to the success of SABEW. Here is a summary of the general duties and obligations of SABEW board members. Board members are:

  • Required to attend SABEW board meetings. Meetings take place in person at the spring conference and via Zoom throughout the year. Board members are expected to cover all travel-related expenses to attend in-person meetings.
    • Per the bylaws, a governor or officer who fails to attend two meetings of the Board over 12 months may be considered to have resigned unless the governor petitions the board to retain the seat and the Board approves the petition by a majority vote of the governors present.
  • Support SABEW by attending the conference and encouraging others within your network to register. Board members are expected to cover all travel-related expenses and conference registration fees.
  • Promote SABEW events, encourage BIB participation, and share other SABEW opportunities on social media and within your networks.
  • Actively participate in at least one SABEW committee; many serve on several committees. Participation includes attending committee meetings.

  • Actively recruit new SABEW members. Expanding SABEW’s membership to include all platforms is a priority.
  • Required to serve as a judge in the Best in Business competition.
  • Look for issues and trends that should be addressed by the SABEW board, First Amendment Committee, or that might make a good training topic.

  • Encouraged to attend local SABEW meetups, programs and events.
  • Required to annually review these responsibilities and reaffirm their commitment.
