2005 News: SABEW 2006 Best In Business Contest Offers Columnist Category, Online Registration for the First Time

Posted By admin

Welcome to the 12th annual SABEW Best in Business (BIB) contest. The contest is for work published during calendar year 2005.

For the first time this year, SABEW is offering easy online contest registration at www.sabew.org. Once you have registered online, you must follow the instructions and mail copies of your stories or newspaper to the SABEW office to complete the entry.

February 1, 2006 all entries must be registered online. After filling out a simple form and choosing to pay online by credit card or later by check, you will receive an email entry confirmation.

February 8, 2006 is the postmark deadline for the paper copies of your stories or newspapers to be mailed to the SABEW contest site. Attach a copy of the entry confirmation to each of the four sets of stories or newspaper sections you are submitting for each entry, and mail the packet of four sets to the SABEW office.

Also for the first time this year we are offering a competition for business columnists as part of the News contest.

The registration process will be simpler if you are already registered as a SABEW member. There are two types of SABEW membership:

Individual Membership: An editor or reporter can join SABEW online as an individual during the entry registration process.

Institutional Membership: Most of our members join as part of an institutional membership held by a newspaper or other media organization for its staff. You CANNOT join SABEW as an institutional member during the online entry registration process. If your organization is an institutional member, make sure the list of SABEW members from your newspaper or other media is up to date. You can do this by calling 573-882-7862 or look up your institution on the members only section of the website. Click on Members Only; then select “search on membership directory”

After submitting an entry registration you will receive a printable confirmation on the screen that you must attach to the actual story or section entries and mail to SABEW. Multiple contest entries in one package must include a summary sheet which lists each entry and totals the fees.

If your organization is already an institutional member, but your name is not listed, you can add your name during the BIB entry process. This may result in an additional membership charge depending on the number of members. SABEW staff will verify this information with the institution before your entry is confirmed.

For more information on entry guidelines, contact Greg McCune, contest co-chair, at Greg.McCune@reuters.com or 312-408-8701; Jill Jorden Spitz, contest co-chair, at jspitz@azstarnet.com or 520-573-4177; or Carrie Paden, executive director of SABEW, at padenc@missouri.edu or 573-882-7862.
