Tentative Schedule
Thursday, Oct. 24:

6 p.m. — Registration and Check-in, Cronkite Second Floor

6:30 p.m. — Opening reception, Cronkite First Amendment Center

7:30 p.m. — Introductions by Warren Watson, SABEW executive director; and Kristin Gilger, associate dean, Cronkite School. A SABEW welcome by Marty Wolk, SABEW incoming president.

7:40 p.m. — Ethics Is Easy, Judgment is Hard— Aaron Brown, professor, Cronkite School, former CNN anchor.

9 p.m. — Program adjourns for the night.

Friday, Oct. 25:

7:45 a.m. — Registration and coffee. Welcome remarks by Chris Callahan, dean, Cronkite School.

8:15 a.m. – Remarks about Gary Klott by Sandy Duerr, widow of Gary Klott. Duerr, editor and vice president of the San Luis Obispo Tribune-News, is a past SABEW president.

8:25 a.m. — Ethics Along the Border — Rick Rodriguez, Cronkite professor, former ASNE president.  Rodriguez explores the media ethics of covering immigration and border strife.

9:30 a.m. — How Public Editors Deal with Emerging Ethical Issues – Moderator: Barney Calame, with Margaret Sullivan, The New York Times, and Clark Hoyt, Bloomberg News. All have been public editors of The New York Times.

10:45 a.m. — Break

10:55 a.m. — Looking Ahead – Tim McGuire, former ASNE president and Cronkite professor in the business and future of journalism, probes the future of journalism ethics in a one-on-one conversation with Margaret Sullivan of The New York Times.

12:05 p.m. — Luncheon with speaker Kelly McBride, author and Poynter Institute ethicist.

1:30 p.m. – Programs adjourns
