Using lobbying databases to track influence in Washington

2 p.m. EST on Monday, July 21

Businesses large and small flex their muscles every day in Washington, trying to shape policy that will help their bottom lines. Carrie Levine, who leads the research team at Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), walks journalists through lobbying disclosure databases that are goldmines of information for how businesses across the nation are influencing debates, regulations and laws. Levine teaches journalists how to scour the public websites and then use the information to shape and add context to stories.
