SABEW welcomes Dean Murphy, business editor of The New York Times, to its board of governors

Dean Murphy, award-winning journalist and business editor of The New York Times, has been appointed to the board of governors of the Society of American Business Editors and Writers.

Murphy, who oversees all content for The New York Times’ Business Day, was appointed to his current position in December 2012 after a two-year stint as deputy business editor. Murphy joined The Times in 2000, first as a reporter and later as deputy national editor. Prior to that, he worked at the Los Angeles Times.

“Dean has been a welcome presence at our meetings, and The New York Times has been a valued member of SABEW for years,” said Joanna Ossinger, SABEW president and a top-news editor at Bloomberg. “It seemed only natural to ask Dean to join the board.”

“An engaged and effective board of directors is key to a nonprofit organization’s success,” said Kathleen Graham, SABEW executive director. “I look forward to working with Dean to advance SABEW’s mission and develop strategies to meet the needs of our members.”

Dean’s appointment lasts through SABEW’s 2017 annual spring conference.

SABEW is the world’s largest organization dedicated to business and financial journalism.
