Technology’s impact on urban life to be discussed at SABEW fall conference: October 8 & 9

f31f23b4-ebc3-4c86-82dd-5c3e2c8e69c0NEW YORK- Dan Doctoroff, CEO of Sidewalk Labs, will address the growing impact of technology on cities at the SABEW fall conference. Doctoroff heads Sidewalk Labs, a Google-funded innovation company tasked with developing technologies that address the biggest challenges cities face and improving urban life for all.

The conference will be held at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism Oct. 8-9, beginning with an evening event Thursday, Oct. 8, and continuing with a daylong program, Oct. 9.

The Thursday evening program will feature the McGraw Symposium, a keynote panel on the continuing digital transformation of business journalism sponsored by CUNY’s McGraw Center for Business Journalism. Among the speakers is Andy Serwer, editor in chief of Yahoo Finance, and Gerard Baker, editor in chief of The Wall Street Journal. The Symposium will be moderated by Jane Sasseen, executive director of the McGraw Center.

Jim Compton, vice chairman of United Airlines, has confirmed to speak on the state of the airline industry. Additional session topics include: reporting on the business of health care and the recent ACA ruling and the 2016 presidential campaign. A special job recruiting session where participants are invited for “speed networking” with representatives of business journalism employers is also planned for Friday.

The program also includes skill building and how-to sessions on FOIA requests and investigative reporting among others.

This will be the sixth consecutive year of collaboration between SABEW, a 3,600-member organization of business journalists, and CUNY, one of New York’s premier universities.
