Roseanne Gerin has worked in journalism for more than 16 years, reporting on many different kinds of stories both in the United States and abroad. She is currently an editor at Radio Free Asia in Washington, where she writes stories on human rights, corruption, the environment, politics, economic development and labor issues in six Asian countries that have limited or no access to independent media. She was a Knight-Bagehot Fellow in Economics and Business Journalism at Columbia University in 2013-14. Gerin spent four years in Poland covering the country as it emerged from its communist past, and six years in China where she wrote and edited news articles about a nation that is having a monumental impact on the U.S. and the rest of the world. As a staff writer at the B2B publication Washington Technology, she was part of a team that won two American Society of Business Press Editors awards for coverage of federal government contractors.

Through my experience working abroad, I’ve seen how emerging countries like China have very different business environments and practices compared to those of western countries — and how they are having a global impact. Today’s journalists need the training and skills to report on global business, so they can explain to readers its effects on domestic companies and the economy. I’d like to help SABEW organize training opportunities for members to become more knowledgeable about international business and line up speakers for panel discussions on global business and economics topics at its conferences.
