Andrew Leckey, president of the Donald W. Reynolds National Center for Business Journalism, has been named a Visiting Scholar at the Fudan Development Institute in Shanghai, China, for summer 2017.

The Fudan Development Institute (FDDI) is located at Fudan University, one of China’s top universities. Since the Institute’s1993 inception it has pooled the strengths of varied disciplines to conduct policy and strategy research on key issues relevant to development of both Shanghai and of China as a whole. It provides research and consultation in the fields of politics, economics, culture, social science, diplomacy and technology. In the 2016 China Think Tank Report published by Shanghai Academy of Science, FDDI ranked among the top 10 university-based think tanks, and was considered as a member of 105 most influential think tanks in China.

Leckey, who is also the Endowed Chair in Business Journalism at Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication where the Reynolds Center is housed, will produce research on several key Chinese economic initiatives, consult with Fudan faculty and make a formal presentation of his findings.

During his month-long stay in Shanghai he will also write related columns for Shanghai Daily and take part in the internationally known Shanghai Forum. A non-governmental and non-profit academic organization, Shanghai Forum since 2005 has brought together academic, political, commercial and press circles from around the world for a three-day conference each May. It focuses on significant “hot topic” problems as it seeks consensus on Asia’s economic political, social and cultural progress.

Leckey, long-time nationally syndicated investment columnist for Chicago Tribune and Los Angeles Times and television anchor for CNBC, was a Fulbright Scholar in China. He has lectured at numerous Chinese universities on business and the economy and is the author or editor of 10 financial books.
