Fellows Sought for 2018 Health Care Symposium in Washington, D.C.

Posted By Crystal Beasley

The Society for Advancing Business Editing and Writing (SABEW) is seeking applications for a symposium that will help journalists better understand health care economics and provide an update on the Affordable Care Act fixes and repeals, Medicare changes, Medicaid cuts, prescription-drug affordability, changes to the child health system and the overall future of health care.

The announcement about the symposium comes at a time when President Trump is expected to deliver his first major speech on drug prices in early May. The symposium will tackle how the health care system is addressing medical conditions such as the growing obesity crisis, rising opioid epidemic and declining heath of elderly people who experience social isolation. Programming will examine the impact of mega mergers aiming to revamp how care is delivered.

Symposium attendees will be able to share and test out story ideas at this sixth annual Business of Health Care Summit. The program begins the evening of Thursday, June 28 with a mixer at the National Press Club and ends midday Saturday, June 30. Friday and Saturday events will be held at the Bloomberg newsroom on New York Ave. in Washington, D.C.

Space is limited to 15 journalists. Selected journalists will receive a stipend to offset travel related expenses. Application deadline is May 17.
