Senior Reporter at The Chronicle of Higher Education

Posted By David Wilhite

Job Description: The Chronicle of Higher Education is seeking an experienced, enterprising reporter to produce morally forceful work that examines how money, and colleges’ pursuit of it, alters and upends the mission of higher education. This reporter will ask and answer pointed questions about the influence of key moneymakers — including athletics departments, health centers, research labs and departments supported by external funders, enrollment managers and recruiters — on a sector of vital national importance. We are looking for a creative and tenacious reporter who has a track record of developing deep sourcing, mining data, and using freedom-of-information laws to probe how colleges act as stewards of their students and the public trust. This reporter will publish distinct journalism that highlights issues of ethics and integrity and forces change.

Job Qualifications: The right candidate has at least five years of experience and is a natural storyteller who can write with authority and generate distinctive story ideas, framed for a national audience. You’ll need to be self-motivated and proactive, eager to collaborate with others, and able to drive conversations about the big issues facing higher education.
