SABEW condemns the harassment and intimidation of journalists covering the recent protests against COVID-19 restrictions in Canada

Reports of journalists being heckled, spat upon and punched as they covered the protests around Parliament Hill in Canada’s capital city are deeply disturbing. The journalists were doing their job: covering the events in great detail and with objectivity.

A free and independent media is a cornerstone of democracy in Canada and around the world.

The Society for Advancing Business Editing and Writing (SABEW) supports the principle of a free press and the journalists who uphold it on daily basis on the snowy streets of Ottawa.

SABEW is the world’s largest organization for business journalists and conducts the annual SABEW Canada Best in Business awards competition.
