SABEW installs new president, leadership team; 51st conference draws 225 to Cronkite School

The Society of American Business Editors and Writers concluded its 51st annual conference March 29 by installing a new president and announcing new board members and executive officers. Marty Wolk, managing editor of MSN Money, took over for a one-year term as president of the 4,000-member organization at the conclusion of the conference in Phoenix. Wolk also was the conference chair of the Phoenix program.Cory Schouten, managing editor of the Indianapolis Business Journal, was elected by the board of governors to become secretary, putting him onto the executive ladder to become president in 2017.

Freelance journalist David Milstead moved up to become vice president,and Bloomberg News team leader Joanna Ossigner was promoted to treasurer.

SABEW members also elected three new members to the board of governors: Mark Hamrick of Bankrate.com, Jim Pensiero of The Wall Street Journal and Karey Van Hall of Reuters. Three board members were re-elected to new, three-year terms: Glenn Hall of MarketWatch, Mary Jane Pardue of Missouri State University and Allen Wastler of CNBC.com.Read the full story…

Michael Lewis to accept SABEW Distinguished Achievement Award

The pioneering business writer, whose 1989 book Liar’s Poker laid bare the inner workings of a Wall Street trading room, has been chosen to receive SABEW’s highest honor.

Lewis, a contributing editor at Vanity Fair magazine, is the author of 14 books, including best-selling titles such as Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game; The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine and The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game.

Lewis will speak in conversation with New York Times contributing writer Diana Henriques at a luncheon during SABEW’s annual conference in Phoenix, Ariz., March 28, 2014.
