2013 BiB Winner: “Lac-Mégantic” by the Globe and Mail

In the 2013 Best in Business contest, the Globe and Mail, won three awards.

“Lac-Mégantic,” by Grant Robertson and Jacquie McNish was not only an example of exemplary investigative reporting but the video presentation at the award ceremony was one of the highlights of the evening.

This is what the judges said about Lac-Mégantic:

The Globe and Mail wasn’t the only news organization to probe what went wrong last July when a train carrying oil derailed and exploded, killing 47 people in the small Quebec town of Lac-Mégantic. But the Globe and Mail dug deeper and found out more, drawing on dozens of interviews as well as company and government documents obtained through access-to-information laws.

Watch the video that brought 200 hardened journalists to tears.
