logo_baruchNEW YORK–Baruch College in New York City will be the site of a special evening on Dec. 5 honoring the Society of American Business Editors and Writers as it completes its 50th anniversary year.

It will be “A Celebration of SABEW at 50,“ and will start at 5:45 p.m. at Baruch, located at 55 Lexington Avenue.  The program, featuring New York real estate developer Bruce Ratner, will conclude at 8:30 p.m.

The program is open to all SABEW members.

“SABEW has done so much for the public and for business journalism,” said Josh Mills, Baruch’s chair of the Department of Journalism and the Writing Professions, in announcing the celebration with Kevin G. Hall, SABEW president.

Said Hall,  “We’re excited to partner with Baruch on a final 2013 event to celebrate SABEW’s Golden Anniversary,” said Hall. “It’ll be a great chance to enjoy the fraternity and common purpose that SABEW membership provides and to share the exciting changes under way to position SABEW for the next 50 years.”

Ratner chairs Forest City Ratner Companies, whose many projects include the Barclays Center, home to the NBA New York Nets, and the surrounding Atlantic Yards development in Brooklyn and The New York Times Building.  Ratner served as commissioner of consumer affairs under Mayor Ed Koch and has taught at New York University Law School. His company recently signed a deal to renovate the Nassau Coliseum on Long Island.

SABEW has had a jam-packed schedule as it celebrates its 50 years of service to business journalism.

In April, it conducted a special spring conference and gala at George Washington University in Washington, D.C.  In early October, it conducted a fall conference in New York City. Both attracted record audiences.   The organization also held its first-ever personal finance conference in conjunction with the National Endowment for Financial Education, also in New York.

Baruch is one of 10 senior colleges in the City University of New York (CUNY) system.  CUNY is the largest urban public university in the United States.
