- Judges’ Comments – Top honors go to the Financial Times for the skill and breadth of its reporting and effectiveness of its presentation. The President’s Club story exposed in detail a tawdry exploitation of young women as a way of helping draw leading figures of British business and society to a major annual charity event. The story led to the abolition of the event. The FT’s reporting also penetrated deep into a secretive and increasing powerful global financial institution, Guggenheim Securities. It disclosed a $30 million settlement of claims by a key fixed-income executive, Anne Walsh, that she was being underpaid, also shining a light on other abuses at the firm. The reporting also included the scoop that Saudi Arabia’s sovereign fund had built a $2 billion stake in Tesla, and a compelling analysis and graphic depiction showing India’s pollution problem, which by one major measure, now exceeds China’s.
