Job Description
The Dallas Morning News seeks an ambitious and versatile editor to drive our business coverage in one of America’s fastest-growing regions. Dallas-Fort Worth is home to two dozen Fortune 500 companies, nearly 80 publicly traded companies with more than $1 billion in revenue, two major airports and two of the industry’s biggest airlines, five major league sports teams and thousands of other firms. The successful candidate will work with data and records, understand social media and digital metrics, grow our online audience. Managing a team to produce a balance of enterprise and daily news coverage is a must-have trait.
Job Qualifications
- Applicants should have at least 10 years of experience in editing roles
- A bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Strong news judgment and understanding of good journalistic practices
- Ability to lead a team
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- Strong time-management and organizational skills
- Clear understanding of digital, audio and print production requirements
- Familiarity with analyses of our audiences, digital and print
- Proficiency in publishing and planning programs (Airtable, Arc and CuePrint) and communications tools (Gmail, Slack)
- Ability to read and assess staff content, work effectively under deadline pressure, communicate clearly, follow instructions, adapt quickly to changes in technology and workflow and lead a team
