#SABEW25 Panel & Speaker Suggestions

Dear SABEW members and friends:

Responding to feedback from attendees of our recent conferences, SABEW is trying something new for our next conference on April 3-5, 2025, in Washington D.C.:

We are soliciting suggestions for speakers and session topics from our membership. Submit your ideas here by Friday, November 1.

We welcome all ideas, which will be reviewed by the planning committee. There are few guidelines to keep in mind:

  1. Not all suggestions can be accepted. The committee will determine what fits best into the overall programming. All proposals will receive a response from the committee, one way or the other.
  2. Participants in our conferences are all volunteers – meaning SABEW does not cover travel or lodging or provide any other compensation.
  3. Proposals should strive to include participants from different backgrounds, organizations, races, genders, newsroom roles, and ethnicities.
  4. A major goal of SABEW25 is to provide professional and student attendees with practical skills and insights that will make their journalism stronger.

To help you formulate proposals, here’s a few categories of programming we anticipate for SABEW25:

  • Panels: These are generally 45-minute sessions with three speakers and a moderator. The main topic should be covered in 30 minutes, with the final 15 minutes dedicated to audience Q&A. These panels come in a variety of forms, including skill-building sessions, how we-did-a-story sessions and deep dives into relevant business journalism topics.
  • Demos: These are in-depth demonstrations of a tool, product or journalistic process led by one or two experts.
  • Master Classes: These are comprehensive, interactive workshops, as long as several hours, that dig deep into a specific topic or skill for a select group of attendees.

The deadline for submitting proposals is Friday, November 1. For any questions, contact Stephanie Klimstra ([email protected]), SABEW’s executive director, or Dean Murphy ([email protected]), the SABEW25 conference chair.
