World Press Freedom Day
May 3
In 2024, World Press Freedom Day is dedicated to the importance of journalism and freedom of expression in the context of the current global environmental crisis.
This day also signifies the importance of a free press in a democracy and reminds governments to protect the journalists who continue to face risks for their reporting.
President George W. Bush issued the first proclamation for World Freedom Day on Nov. 9, 2001, the 12th anniversary of the opening of the Berlin Wall between East and West Germany under the Reagan administration.
