2017 David J. Morrow Scholarship for Business Journalism

Larissa Johnson is a senior multimedia journalism student in the University of South Carolina Honors College. She is from Dayton, Ohio, where she grew up with her parents, older sister and two cats. She was editor-in-chief of The Daily Gamecock in spring 2017 after working on the copy desk and as managing editor. She’s written more than 30 articles for TDG, and had been published in other university publications, including Garnet & Black and The Lettered Olive. In 2016, the South Carolina Press Association awarded her second place for a news story on College of Charleston students who were evacuated to USC during Hurricane Matthew. Her favorite pieces to write are investigative stories and articles with creative story forms. Larissa is passionate about international issues and has gone on journalism Maymesters to Oman and Cuba. After graduation, she hopes to work in the field of journalism or pursue higher education.
