Charts and infographics can be powerful storytelling tools, but to do them well, you need a thorough understanding of the data they’re based on. During this presentation, Alberto Cairo, Knight Chair in visual journalism at the University of Miami, will talk about the common mistakes journalists make when assembling infographics and share tips on how to put them together effectively.

Alberto Cairo is the author of “How Charts Lie: Getting Smarter about Visual Information.” He has been head of information graphics at publications in Spain and Brazil. In addition to serving as the Knight Chair in Visual Journalism, Alberto is director of the visualization program at UM’s Center for Computational Science.
