Henry Dubroff honored with SABEW’s President’s Award

Henry Dubroff, founder and editor of the Pacific Coast Business Times, received Society for Advancing Business Editing and Writing’s President’s Award at its annual conference, #SABEW22, in New York City’s financial district.

Dubroff, a past SABEW president, was honored for his tireless efforts as chair of SABEW’s First Amendment Committee.

SABEW’s First Amendment Committee is dedicated to helping protect press freedoms. This committee is vigilant in its role as a watchdog over government agencies, working to ensure that journalists – and all citizens – have access to accurate, relevant government-supported data. The committee regularly issues statements in support of press freedom and for sufficient funding of government-collected and issued information.

“Henry Dubroff is a consummate business journalist, an entrepreneur and a staunch defender of freedom of the press,” said SABEW President Caleb Silver, and editor-in-chief of Investopedia. “SABEW is fortunate to have him lead our efforts and voice in that fight when it comes to defending one of the most critical foundations of our democracy.”

Dubroff’s Pacific Coast Business Times is the weekly business journal of record serving Santa Barbara, Ventura and San Luis Obispo counties in California. Now in its 21st year of publication, the Business Times has won numerous awards, including a national Society of Professional Journalists Sigma Delta Chi award for breaking news, SABEW’s Best in Business award, and several Los Angeles Press Club awards.

Dubroff was the business editor of The Denver Post from 1988 until 1995 and served as part of a management team that conducted one of the most successful turnarounds in the newspaper industry. The former editor of The Denver Business Journal has served multiple times as a Best in Business contest judge and co-chaired a successful effort to raise $1.1 million for an endowed chair in business journalism at the University of Missouri.

“It’s an honor to be recognized by an organization that so strongly supports both professional development and excellence in business reporting,” said Dubroff. “I am proud to lead a distinguished committee dedicated to standing up for, defending and supporting press freedom.”
