Dear SABEW Friends,
There’s a little less than a month left in 2024, but it’s clear that some of the biggest business stories of the year will continue grabbing headlines in the year to come. How will the economy respond to a second Trump administration? Will there be a new trade war? Will the Federal Reserve continue cutting interest rates? How will companies continue incorporating AI into their businesses?
SABEW members are focused on these topics and many others, doing the reporting that is critical to making sense of the world around us.
And just like it has for 60 years, SABEW helped equip members through a number of events, including:
- Skill Up, which once again brought together journalists and students at The Wall Street Journal’s New York headquarters to hear about finding scoops, researching companies and more
- Goldschmidt data fellowships in Washington D.C., and in St. Louis at the St. Louis Federal Reserve bank
- Eleven virtual training webinars
- The spring conference hosted in Chicago by Northwestern University where journalists sharpened their skills and celebrated the Best in Business Awards
- SABEW Canada Best in Business awards
SABEW also helped women and journalists of color advance their careers through the Xana Fellowship and Sho Fund.
In total, nearly 600 journalists increased their skills and knowledge through virtual training sessions; 197 SABEW members were honored for excellence in business journalism; and 63 fellowship opportunities were provided.
And our First Amendment Committee produced numerous thoughtful statements, including strong advocacy for the release of Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich who was illegally detained in Russia for more than a year.
SABEW’s mission of supporting reporters, editors, producers and others involved in pursuing the highest standards of economic journalism and encouraging deep, thoughtful reporting of economic events remains vital. We need your help to continue this mission.
On behalf of Executive Director Stephanie Klimstra and myself, I ask you to consider a year-end, tax-deductible donation.
