Hilary Claggett

Hilary has been editing business, economics, and finance books for Georgetown University Press since 2020, when she was hired as the founding acquisitions editor for the Press’s newest publishing program.

Prior to joining the university press world, Hilary acquired and published business, economics, and finance for Praeger Publishers, an imprint of ABC-CLIO, which was sold to Bloomsbury in 2023. She also published many books on journalism, even predating my business book acquisitions.

From 2003 to 2013, Hilary acquired in politics, current events, and international affairs, and published a lot of journalism books in the mid-2000s especially. She has continued to contribute to knowledge about journalism as a business editor at GUP, publishing Chris Roush’s The Future of Business Journalism, Thomas W. Lippman’s Get the Damn Story, and Kavita Chandran and Saldene Lyte’s forthcoming Headlines That Matter: How News Moves Markets. Currently I’m developing a project on nonprofit news.

In addition to Hilary’s editorial and publishing duties, she is currently Treasurer-elect at AUPresses (Association of University Presses) and a judge for the PROSE Awards (AAP). She has also judged entrepreneurship contests for Columbia University’s Brown Institute for Media Innovation.

Hilary earned a master’s in international affairs from Columbia University and a bachelor’s in politics and Russian studies from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
