Pia Sarkar of The Associated Press becomes President of SABEW’s Board of Governors

Six Governors elected to SABEW Board

Pia Sarkar, deputy global business editor at The Associated Press, was installed as the new president of the Society for Advancing Business Editing and Writing (SABEW) during its annual conference board meeting on April 5 at the Hyatt Centric Arlington just across the river from Washington, D.C.

“I am humbled and honored to serve as SABEW’s next president,” said Sarkar. “At a time when business journalism is more important than ever – and you don’t have to look much further than the headlines to know that’s true – SABEW is well-positioned to meet the challenge. I look forward to us working together to build our skills, cultivate our talent and broaden our reach.”

In addition to Sarkar, SABEW’s 2025-2026 officer ladder is comprised of Vice President Robert Barba, breaking news editor at The Wall Street Journal, and Secretary/Treasurer Kelli Grant, CFP®, deputy personal finance editor at CNBC.

SABEW members elected six people to the board:

SABEW, the largest association of business journalists, encourages comprehensive reporting of economic events without fear or favoritism and upgrades the skills and knowledge of business journalists through continuous professional development and educational efforts.
