James T. Madore, an award-winning journalist at Newsday and longtime member of the Board of Governors at the Society for Advancing Business Editing and Writing, was presented with the organization’s President’s Award at its annual conference, #SABEW25, held at the Hyatt Centric in Arlington, Virginia.
Madore was honored April 4 for his contributions to business journalism and to key SABEW initiatives, including serving as chairman of the finance committee, member of the executive and First Amendment committees, and mentoring young journalists.
“This honor goes to someone who has shown dedication to the organization, and someone I trust greatly. James Madore is all of that – and more,” said James Nelson, SABEW’s president for 2024-25 and Business Editor at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “James has been a SABEW board member since 2013 and is someone who always chips in and contributes. Among many things, J.T. helped steer us through the financial challenges brought on by the pandemic and has been a careful steward of our budget.”
Madore is a business reporter who writes about Long Island business news including the economy, development, and the relationship between government and the business community. Previously he worked for The Buffalo News and the Watertown (N.Y.) Daily Times.
Madore said he was especially honored to receive the award from Nelson and being part of SABEW, the largest professional association devoted to promoting excellence and ethics in business journalism.
“This award came as a total surprise but I’m very grateful,” Madore said. “Like so many, SABEW has made me a better reporter through its annual conferences, data fellowships and monthly training sessions. I hope in some small way to help ensure the organization is around for decades to come to help future generations of business journalists. I’m also appreciative of my employer, Newsday, for supporting my volunteer work at SABEW,” he said.
