SABEW is soliciting suggestions for speakers and session topics for our next conference on May 7-9, 2026, in Philadelphia, PA. Submit your ideas by Friday, October 31.
The planning committee welcomes and will review all ideas. When submitting your suggestions, please keep these guidelines in mind:
- Not all suggestions can be accepted. The committee will determine what fits best into the overall programming. All proposals will receive a response from the committee, one way or the other.
- Participants in our conferences are all volunteers – meaning SABEW does not cover travel or lodging or provide any other compensation.
- Proposals should strive to include participants from different backgrounds, organizations, races, genders, newsroom roles, and ethnicities.
- A major goal of SABEW26 is to provide professional and student attendees with practical skills and insights that will make their journalism skills stronger.
To help you formulate proposals, here’s a few categories of programming we anticipate for SABEW26:
- Panels: These are generally 45-minute sessions with three speakers and a moderator. The main topic should be covered in 30 minutes, with the final 15 minutes dedicated to audience Q&A. These panels come in a variety of forms, including skill-building sessions, how we-did-a-story sessions and deep dives into relevant business journalism topics.
- Demos: These are In-depth demonstrations of a tool, product or journalistic process led by one or two experts.
- Master classes: These are comprehensive, interactive workshops, as long as several hours, that dig deep into a specific topic or skill for a select group of attendees.
The deadline to submit the form is Friday, October 31. If you have any questions, please contact Stephanie Klimstra ([email protected]), SABEW’s executive director, Dean Murphy ([email protected]), or Desiree Hanford ([email protected]) the SABEW26 conference co-chairs.
