Job Description
The Daily Memphian, a daily digital publication in Memphis, Tennessee, is seeking a veteran business reporter to join our team. Candidates must have strong backgrounds in business journalism and be skilled at generating story ideas, writing cleanly, quickly and authoritatively, developing sources, breaking news and working quickly with minimum supervision. You must know how to find relevant stories that connect with our audience, including breaking news, quick follow-ups and in-depth enterprise. A collaborative attitude and ability to multitask is important. Being familiar with social media and basic analytics is also important. Our reporters must frequently engage with the local business community as well as spend time in the newsroom regularly to interact with editors and other staffers. Applicants should have at least five years of newsroom experience and be willing to relocate to Memphis if they don’t already live in the area. Reliable transportation is necessary.
Job Qualifications
At least five years as a business or economics reporter. Candidates should have a good handle on EBITDA, earnings and corporate culture and feel comfortable talking to C-suite executives.
