Warren spent 25 years as a newspaper reporter, editor and executive before moving into journalism education in 1998. He was vice president of the American Press Institute until 2004 when he became director of J-Ideas, a First Amendment institute at Indiana’s Ball State University. Watson was a co-founder of the Reynolds Center for Business Journalism in 2003. He joined SABEW in September 2009.

Mark joined SABEW’s staff in October 2009 following 24 years in Arizona journalism, most recently as editorial writer and columnist for the East Valley Tribune. He served six years on the national board of the Society of Professional Journalists including two on its Executive Committee, and remains active on the board of the Phoenix SPJ chapter. Mark is treasurer of the First Amendment Coalition of Arizona and teaches mass communications law and journalism ethics at Arizona State University, where he has been a faculty associate (adjunct professor) at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication since 2008. He continues to write and edit for several Arizona newspapers and magazines.

Spring joined SABEW in December 2011 after graduating from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism in May 2011. Spring has interned with RIESTER, an advertising agency with offices in Los Angeles, Salt Lake City and Phoenix as well as with the Phoenix New Times where she wrote for Jackalope Ranch and Chow Bella. In addition, she contributed to the ideation and development of SmartPhx, a mobile application helping people find locations and events in downtown Phoenix. Since graduating, Spring has pursued her love of visual storytelling as the Director of Photography on an independent short film and other short video pieces. She is currently in pre-production on a documentary focusing on international refugees in Phoenix.
