As SABEW gets ready to celebrate it’s 60th Anniversary in 2024, we want to celebrate the impact SABEW has had in 2023. Skill Up once again brought together journalists and students at The Wall Street Journal’s New York headquarters to hear about how to find scoops, employ data and much more. SABEW hosted the Goldschmidt data fellows for a week in Washington D.C., including a trip to the Federal Reserve, and at the St. Louis Federal Reserve Bank. Several training webinars were held, including our most recent one on covering retail. And, of course, there was the wonderful spring conference held at The Poynter Institute. In addition, our colleagues in Canada had their Best In Business Awards celebration in Toronto.
Over this last year 2,400 journalists participated in SABEW programs and awards competitions, 600 journalists increased their skills and knowledge through SABEW’s virtual training sessions, more than 300 people attended one of our seven in-person events, 205 SABEW members were honored for Excellence in Business Journalism and over 75 fellowship opportunities were provided including the Xana Fellowship and Sho Fund helping women and journalists of color advance their careers.
Also, in following our mission, nine First Amendment statements were made including one advocating for the release of Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich which will continue until he comes home.
SABEW is looking ahead to 2024 and needs your support to continue the work of pursuing the highest standards of economic journalism and encouraging deep, thoughtful reporting of economic events which remains vital for reporters, producers, editors, and others involved with this very important task.
